PERFUME

I went to a designers outlet with my other half today, we planned to buy shoes yet could not find any of our liking.

As we had lots of time to kill, we then headed to Boots to test some perfumes. Out of all perfumes my other half have tested, i really like the one by Dior - J'adore. The fragrance was so fresh and had a flowery after-smell.

So to all the women out there, do get this. You won't regret!

Similar to English, the Malay language is also rich with its own collective nouns (or what we called penjodoh bilangan) for examples 'sebiji' durian, 'sebuah' kereta, etc....

But things are different in Kelantan when most of these penjodoh bilangan become 'sebutir'.

So if you are visiting Kelantan, don't be surprised if someone ask how many 'butir' durians you want to buy!

Newcastle

Not to confuse but there are two Newcastle in the UK, one is called Newcastle-under-Lyme while the bigger sister is called Newcastle-upon-Tyne. We went to the later last weekend. A city with character and inexpensive, a buffet cost me GBP8 per head can't find that in Edinburgh!

Jogjakarta - Part 3

1. That evening we stop at Prambanan temple. Same as Borobodur, the entrance fee will be charged based on your nationality. So, to get a local price, pretend to be Indonesian. Do not talk to the guard unless they ask :)

2. Due to earthquake in 2007, most of the ruins were damaged. But, the authority currently rebuilding it back.

3. The main candi complex called Rara Jonggarang, which consist of Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu tamples.

4. Besides the main candi complex, there also some small candi; Lumbung, Bubrah and Sewu.

5. At night there will be theater about Ramayana and Sita Dewi; i will share the story later.

Jogjakarta - Part 2

1. After our visit to Borobodur, we then stopped at kebun buah salak in Tiwi.

2. Tiwi district is known for its salak pondoh, which is sweet and crunchy. We hand-picked about 2 kilograms of salak back to hotel. It only cost us RM2.50/kg.

3. For lunch, we then headed to Boyong Kalegan restaurant. This place is special because it was built like hut, and customer sit on the floor when eating.

4. We ordered gurameh bakar, cumi goreng tepung pedas and lalapan(ulam). The taste was marvelous!

JOGJAKARTA - Part 1

1.We reached the airport by 5PM, our driver Pak Asrul was already around to pick us to the hotel.

2.Since it was raining when we arrived, we decided just to had dinner and short tour around the city that night.

3.By 8am the next day, we decided to visit Candi Borobodur. It was built by Buddhist under Srivijaya empire.

4.Here you can find a lot of Buddha statues without head, according to our driver it was stolen due to its high price.

5.An advice for those who planned to visit here, do act as someone come from Jakarta if you want to enjoy locals entrance rate. A foreign visitor need to pay Rp100,000 while Rp12,500 for locals, big difference rite?

A Fruit that Really should not Exist

Most people are completely unaware of this fact but there is a fruit that is eaten by millions of people all around the world everyday that is quite remarkable and in all reality, simply shouldn’t exist. I’m talking of course, about the banana.Bananas are actually the most mysterious fruit in the world because bananas have no seeds and what makes this even more mysterious is the fact that they are found in almost every country in the world.

Now that may not sound so odd at first but let me fully explain this enigma to you:

Firstly, banana plants are not trees; they are actually a perennial herb. The trunk of the plant is really nothing more than the plants outer leaves. The real stem of the plant doesn’t actually become visible until it pushes out through the top to produce the large purple flower that will eventually develop into the fruit. Then, having finished its perennial reproductive cycle, the plant dies. The problem here, is that in the reproductive cycle of the banana, seeds are completely absent from the mature fruit! A new ‘seedling’ (known as a ‘sucker’) can only ever be generated from a piece of the plants rootstock and yet bananas are found in almost most every place on earth, even on quite remote and isolated islands.

How in the world did they all get there?

The seeds certainly weren’t carried across the oceans by prevailing winds. To fully appreciate this anomaly first consider that the only other seedless plants that exist anywhere in the world are things like seedless grapes, naval oranges and the many genetically modified varieties of commercial vegetables that can now be purchased, the point is, any other seedless plants that exist, anywhere in the world, are all that way because they have genetically modified!And yet here we have the humble banana, which is also the only food in existence that contains exactly the correct requirements of vitamins and minerals for mans metabolism completely. It is the only food that man can live on healthily, by itself, with complete nutrition, it is found all over the world and yet we have no knowledge of how it could possibly have come into being. It seems highly improbable that the worldwide distribution of a seedless fruit that is perfectly tailored for sustaining man would have just somehow ‘happened.’

It is extremely unlikely for such a plant to have ever been produced by nature all on its own and many people believe that somehow, somewhere, sometime, someone in our far distant past genetically engineered bananas into the widely dispersed and remarkably nutritious plant that we find everywhere in such abundance to day.

These people cite that bananas are living daily proof of an ancient culture that spanned the entire globe in remote pre-history. Botanists also now tentatively agree that the spread of the banana plant appears to have radiated outward from the Pacific region.The Banana plant incidentally, is not actually a fruit or a vegetable, but it does reach a height of around 30 feet at maturity which makes it the Worlds largest herb and the tallest plant in existence that does not have a woody trunk.

I almost tricked when I saw a plane in Kota Bharu airport imprinted with Bank Rakyat's logo; to think either they had changed their business plan or was it one of their 'special treats' for the top management.

TEEETTTT, both were wrong!! After glanced thru the whole plane, I noticed a familiar sign just under the plane wings. It wrote AIRASIA.

I am totally amazed, Tony Fernandes can even make revenues this way. What a genius.

MOVIE GALORE

I just watched a movie called "Pensil", which directed and acted by M Subash. This movie was filmed in just 6 days with budget of RM400K. What I want to share here is how love and hate were projected into a "special" boy by named Badrul who like drawing using a pencil.

The story started when Badrul's Indian mother fall in love with a Malay man, the mother got pregnant but later killed herself due to hurdle from her family. Before she attempt suicide, she gave Badrul to her Malay boyfriend; thus Badrul grew up with his step mother after his father died. His step mother had made Badrul worked while she just stayed in the house; until one day she tipped a rusted nail and was amputated. Because of this, his step mother had outcast him...

There are more sad scenes during the story, do find it out yourselves.

HARI RAYA AIDILFITRI

I'm currently staying in my in-law house since 2nd week of Ramadhan due to my wife estimated delivery date is approaching. Doctor said she might deliver on the 3rd day of Hari Raya. Not taking any risk, I'm gonna celebrate this year Hari Raya in Shah Alam.

Thus, to my family and relatives in Kelantan & Penang, Selamat Hari Raya and maaf zahir batin. Same for all who knew me and read this blog.
